"A sphere is not made up of not one, but of an infinite number of circles; women have diverse gifts, and to say that women's sphere is the family circle is a mathmatical absurdity." Maria Mitchell |
The Western Carolina Women's Coalition - what on earth is that? Who are these women and what do they have in common? And what do they want, anyway? We are all different kinds of women - young and old, financially secure and still struggling, natives and newbies. Some of us are students and some of us are long retired. We belong to different political parties; we hold a variety of religious beliefs. Some of us have families, some are single. What we have in common is that we are women and we live in Western North Carolina. We meet to learn from each other and from the accomplishments of other women, sharing our wisdom as well as sharing our questions. We see areas of growth and areas of opportunity and we take action. We seek to promote education and training for women. We provide public information on issues of concern to women with this Web site and with conferences and other events. We concern ourselves with advocacy for policy improvement. We see how our own lives are enriched and expanded by coming together to work for equality at home, work, and in the public arena. And that is why we have chosen to carve out the time from our busy lives to "coalesce". O U R B E G I N N I N G S The Western Carolina Women's
Coalition We offer the rare opportunity for women to join forces and work together on behalf of the common good; across barriers of social and economic class, race and ethnic origin, religious and political persuasion, and geographic differences. Our members come from every segment of our region, and our member organizations range from the League of Women Voters to Church Women United and the American Association of University Women. O U R F U T U R E We take responsibility for our lives and we help other women do the same. We claim our power. As women of the 21st Century, we realize it is time to step up to the plate and create for ourselves the lives we want. Join us! |
